Adventure Playground
Motherwell

BRIEF

To create a playground and adventure area for young children up to the age of 7/8 in an area of mature trees.

SOLUTION

We surveyed the trees and found that there was a huge beech tree that was completely unsafe. This tree was felled, but left the bottom 3.5 metres of trunk. This was carved to create a centrepiece for the playground. We then designed and built a walkway around the centre totem and across to a tower with slide. All of this was constructed in western red cedar and green oak which have a life expectancy of at east 50 to 60 years. The swings are oak. The mushrooms surrounding the ... were carved by us using the wood cut from the beech tree.
