Dalziel Country Park Adventure Playground

Brief

To create a playground and adventure area for young children up to the age of 7/8 in an area of mature trees.

Solution

We surveyed the trees and found that there was a huge beech tree that was completely unsafe. This tree was felled, but we left the bottom 3.5 metres of trunk. This was carved to create a centrepiece for the playground. We then designed and built a walkway around the centre totem and across to a tower with slide. All of this was constructed in western red cedar and green oak which both have a life expectancy of at least 50 to 60 years. The swings are solid oak and the mushrooms surrounding the playground were carved by us using the wood cut from the beech tree. We are never one to let things go to waste!
